Creating a Permanent Announcement Bar in Squarespace

The Squarespace announcement bar is great for… announcements, but it can really do so much more! The problem is that you wouldn’t want to put any important information there if there was a chance your visitor could dismiss it and then not be able to view or access it. So what’s the workaround? A quick bit of code you can add in Design > Custom CSS:

.sqs-announcement-bar-close {
     display: none;

Ideas For A Permanent Announcement Bar

  • Take advantage of the clickthrough URL for the announcement bar and add a link to your most popular content or a featured page on your site. You could also update it so it always link to your latest blog post, for example.

  • Style the announcement bar in a contrasting color from your main navigation to add interest and to mimic that popular “multi-line” top navigation style.

  • Add your tagline to your announcement bar and this area becomes part of the branding at the top of every page.

  • Encourage bookings by adding a link to your scheduling service and using simple text like “Book Now!” in the announcement bar.

  • Make sure your visitors are aware of special hours or events by adding a reminder in the announcement bar that links to a blog post or event page.

  • Encourage reviews by adding a link and CTA to review your business on Google.

  • Provide coupons codes for your store or promote other sales or specials (be sure to link to your shop page!)

These are just a few ideas for what you can do with your announcement bar that go beyond the typical “announcement”. With a little creativity and some sharp copy, you can turn this little space into a powerful way to connect with both new and repeat visitors.
